Filipino culture hindering women's chances of succeeding in the academe?
Filipinos really value education, but is the treatment the same for men as in women? Doesn't our culture still discriminate between men and women? This is why there are several advocates for women rights who make relevant reports and give advice for women regarding discrimination. Doesn't this mean that no matter how many sample essays about myself or examples of personal statements we may look at for college admission, women are not expected to do well? Can the problem be the culture because of the things that we're taught at home -- the expectation that women are supposed to be just wives and mothers?

I agree with what have you said that Filipinos really value education. But it doesn't necessarily means that it is the treatment the same for men as in women. Yes! It was the same on the other thing but not actually alike.
