Digestive Problems : Danger Foods
• Refined Carbohydrates

White sugar and white flour are both used in convenience foods that are often high in fat as well, such as cakes , biscuits and chocolates.


• Fat

And all deep fried foods. Convenience foods in high fat.


• Red Meat

Particularly pork in any form, ham, bacon, salami and luncheon meats, spam, and all other processed meat products, pies, hamburgers and pates.


• Coffee

Coffee is often the villain of the piece.
If you drink lots of it, try cutting it out before making any other dietary changes, but be prepared for withdrawal symptoms, including headaches, nausea, irritability and tremor.
Caffeine is highly addictive, and it could take some time to recover when you go cold turkey.
Check, in any patent medicine you may be taking, it turns up in many painkillers and cold cures, as well as in cola and sweet and fizzy drinks, which should be avoided by those with digestive problems anyway.


• Acidic Foods

These are disasters.
You should particularly avoid malt, vinegars, pickles and NBC or non-brewed condiment, that vinegar substitute that the British like to splash over their fish and chips.
Some citrus fruits - oranges, limes and grapefruits, can also be irritant to a sensitive gut , but lemon features strongly in traditional medicine as a remedy for gastric problems, particularly those directly involving the liver.


• Artificial Colorings, Flavorings & Preservatives

Many of these are relatives of aspirin family, and can be gastric irritants.


• Alcohol

And digestive problems do not mix.
Not even in the form of the digestive bitters now becoming increasingly popular.
Excessive alcohol is definitely a serious factor in many digestive problems.
