Who only smiles with fear
The way she talks in quiet voice



So gentle, hurt, knowing & clear
Suggest to me that in her life
She's known a lot of pain



For when she talks in quiet voice
She sometimes forgets and stops & starts again
And sometimes when she is talking her voice trails far away



She says something
From deep inside her soul then realizes
Corrects herself and continues to say


That everything at home is fine
And she's going to the shops
Although her voice is happy, her eyes are clearly not



She's holding up her tears inside
Her voice is a disguise
A cover up to hide the fact



That for her life, pain and misery
