Comfort
I heard her crying
In her room across the way And selfishly I wished I hadn't I wanted it to stop And seem as if it never was I wanted to sleep untroubled And awake unknowing I didn't want to care But I heard her crying It gripped my chest It stung my throat And I remembered all those times She'd come when I had wept To sit by me and tell me stories I felt like screaming No that's not right, you're mistaken I cry, you comfort, it mustn't change We must keep things as they were But still her lonely sobbing Seeped in at my door And found me hiding under my cover Silently I slipped from my bed And out across the landing to find her. |
