Description:

In this world, there exists people with special abilities to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. These people are known as alchemists. This process does come with a cost though, the basic law of alchemy states that to gain something you have to sacrifice something of the same value.

The main character is the famous alchemist Edward Elric - also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist - who almost lost his little brother, Alphonse, in an accident. Edward managed to contain his brother's soul in a large suit of armor. While he did manage to save his brother's life, he had to pay a great price himself.

To get back what they've lost, the brothers embark on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone that is said to amplify the powers of an alchemist enormously.

Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)

Edward Elric, the FullMetal Alchemist, is the main character. Ed's mother died when he was 11, and Ed blames his father, who ran off when he was still a baby, for his mother's death. He believes that his mother "faded away" while waiting for him to return. Ed then convinced Al to bring her back to life using the forbidden art of Human Transmutation. Attempted to resurrect their deceased mother, Trisha Elric , Ed lost his left leg in the alchemic rebound and Al lost his entire body. Ed saved his dear younger brother by bravely sacrificing his own right arm in order to attach Al's soul to a nearby suit of armor. After obtaining automail prosthetics from their childhood friend mechanic, Winry Rockbell, Ed still has the ability to perform alchemy. Ed now leads them both on a journey to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone, a powerful, dangerous, and mysterious stone that may be able to restore their bodies.

Edward Elric is the youngest State Alchemist, achieving this at age 12. He, unlike most alchemists, does not need a transmutation circle to do alchemy. This first happened when helping the wife of a friend (Hughes) give birth and he accidentally heated the water. The reason on why he could perform alchemy without a  transmutation circle its because he saw the other side of the gate, he would say that he saw the "truth" meaning the other side of the gate where the homunculus were born. Alphonse is often mistaken for the Fullmetal Alchemist, as his soul is encased in a large suit of armor. Ed is very quick to point out that they are wrong. Ed is also very touchy about his height. Call him "shorty" and he will change the words around, making it very amusing.

Alphonse Elric

Alphonse Elric is the younger brother of Edward, but constantly mistaken to be the Full Metal Alchemist. His is softhearted, and loves animals to death. His body is an empty suit of armor: if you open it up, nothing is there. He lost his body in the accident years before. Ed used a symbol of soul binding made of his own blood from his leg to bind Al's soul to a nearby suit of armor. He seeks the philosopher's stone with Ed to fix what was messed up. Ed and Al went out on millions of adventures to find the clasicly described Philosophers Stone. They meant to use it to restore each other's bodies. In the end of the series, though, the two find that human transmutation is impossible, even with the Stone. Meaning there is no way they could resurrect the dead even if they have the Philosophers Stone. The only thing that the Philosophers Stone can do is to to transfer a soul to another body just like what happened to Ed & Al's father and also with Dante.

The end is quite fair ... i guess the continuation will be seen on the Full Metal Alchemist the movie
