Re: School Life in Abroad

Grin

Re: School Life in Abroad
tama ka diyan faye..!
kc magaling sila sa grammar..
i've had lots of english teachers d2 magagaling magturo...

anyways...
everyday, we depend by the day...
for example, monday is day 1, tuesday is day 2, and so forth..
lahat ng school d2 sa Winnipeg (?), lets say Manitoba, depends in the same day...
tulad nga ng sinabi ko monday is day 1, etc..
di pwede na magka-iba sila ng day kc magkakagulo lahat yun...
and, in high school and elementary, madalas nagsisimula yung school nagsisimula from 9 AM 'til 3 PM...
mas madali d2 kaysa sa Pinas but students doesnt take school here that seriously especially yung mga amerikano and mga indians..
most of them skip classes just chillin around the school...
kaya madalas mga grades na nakukuha nila is 10% to 40%...

Iba ang method and style of teaching here in states.....inside the classroom, it is more conversational interaction between the students and the teacher......very informal....
Yes....they give you tons of book list that you have to read, critic the book, do a book report like an essay in your own words.
I learned how to speed read because of so much books to read.

Yeah..when it comes to test....it is always in essay form...you write what you think and the teacher grade you according to what you have written......I like it......it makes you think and be creative and you learn how to write properly and express yourself.
I LOVE writing in essays.

Unlike in PI...they are so formal, bookish, and when they have their test, it is usually yes or no selection, filling the blanks, enumerations style formats....correct me if I am wrong...that was when I was still there, maybe they have change now..

I learned how to speak fluent conversational english here the way americans speak in their everyday life......they dont speak correct english grammatically like you learned in school in PI.....when they talk, it is conversational english mix with little slangs.

Also since english is their native tongue...teachers speaks perfectly well in english......I learned how to speak the american way, with correct pronounciation, diction, enunciating the words correctly.

The problem with english teachers back home is that, they pronounced the english words with wrong diction, some words they pronounced it wrong and  with pinoy accent . I am not criticizing them, since it is not our native tongue, we are bound for mistakes.

It is a big adjustment when you get here, you have to correct your english and speak it the way americans speak it, otherwise they wont understand your accent and what you are talking about.

This is the common problem new immigrants experienced when they first came here....is how to change and improved their english speaking skill in order to be understood by the americans.

Re: School Life in Abroad
tama ka diyan homie..
very educational talaga kung magturo sila d2..
each school year is divided into 2 semesters...
and di pwedeng wla kang matutunan ni-isa sa mga yun in one semester, kc galing nila magturo d2...
unless u missed most of your classes...
LoL!
like, writing the right format..
and yung thesis statement/into dapat 3-4 sentences long lng...
we usually use guidelines in making essays...

English Exams are different here esp in high school..
when i was in grade 9, yung english exam ko parang ganun din sa science, definitions, etc...
pero nung grae 10, my english exam took 5 days to finish...
but no need to study, you just have to know what you're doing..
last semester nmn, my english exam took 7 days to finish...
the exam mostly consists of essays...
and english subjects are only allowed to take one in a year, unless you failed ur english subject last year or might wanna take the enlish for next year..
and the registration day will be on wednesday, buti nga at nakausap ko yun...
ang balak ko kc kunin comp. programmer..
kaya mostly mga computer courses kinuha ko, and one english and math subject and im good to go...
pero sa college lng ako kc 1 1/2 to 3 years long lng, sa university 4 - 6 years long...

That is a very good course...comp.programmers are paid very well here......I know for a fact cause I work for our payroll accounting dept.....for starter as a newly graduate..your monthly pay starts at $5000.00, for those who have 5 to 10 yrs working experience earns between 8,000.00 to 9000.00 per month, and for those over 10 years with different specialty in programming...they earned $100,000.00 per year...

Another field that you might want to explore is ACCOUNTING.....they are in demand here and are paid WELL...I mean they are highly paid and accounting job is plentiful here. You wont have problem looking for accounting job. Starting salary per year is about $70,000.00 plus.

yes pilipinos learn to read and write in english in school  BUT...the only way how to speak it correctly is ACTUALLY TALKING to a native born americans.....pag-araw araw mo silang kausap....na-im-improve ang speaking skills mo..

kasi sa pinas....inside the classroom lang ang limit ng knowledge mo ng english language.....we dont speak it in the streets.....eh sino ba naman ang kakausapin mo ng english sa pinas  kung pareho parehong kayo mga pinoy, siyempre tagalog ang salita mo. If you talk to each other in english...siyempre pinoy accent kayo pareho, kaya walang improvement.... Grin
