Re: Search for one's identity/The Joy of being Filipino
Hi! I'm back... so, as I was saying, maybe I used the wrong title for my post... I wasn't actually searching for my identity, the point I wanted to stress out was that I have been blinded and to some extent I have been lying to myself.
The Chinese are quite popular around here... they are always "IN", in clubs and night spots they're there... most of them drive the sleekest tricked-out rides, sporting the best fashion trend and so on... so that's my point, in a desparate attempt to emulate them I dug for some historical background from my mom and she told me about our Chinese heritage although she didn't expounded too much on the topic. So knowing that I suddenly went in a blind, self-conceited charade telling myself that I'm also Chinese and that I should act like one in order to be accepted in the Chinese community. So with all these asian, chinese pride whatever that I'm doing I then decided to "be" with my "so-called" chinese brethren... I joined this all-asian blog site similar to FNETS but as soon as I posted informing everyone about me having chinese heritage... chinese bloggers "attacked" me with mockery and laughter... so you see, those "chinese" that I have been trying so hard to be with have shunned me up front and quite honestly without "mercy".then, that incident sent me into a period of heavy reflection... then I realized that my Chinese heritage is a thing of the past... it is something I shouldn't be "yelling" out too loud, it is like a tiny drop of ink in a lake, it disperses into the water and then becomes unnoticeable, people who look at the lake wouldn't know about the ink, all they see is a lake, and the ink really loses its significance except for those who knew about it. So yeah, I might have used a wrong title for my post but I really take pride in my being Pilipino. I love who I am and those like me... ANG SAMBAYANANG PILIPINO! :iou:thanks to all who pondered this topic with me, it has really been enriching and helpful :33: |

Re: Search for one's identity/The Joy of being Filipino
well joe....you have explained your point so well........I got it !!!
anyway....dont worry, this is a public forum......we are here to discuss anything that is of common interest to all..... and I am sure glad that we have a good exchange of opinion about this topic.... to fit in with any racial group....just be yourself..... always identify yourself first as a pilipino ...and if by curiousity sake, people ask about your heritage and ethinicity....then you can always say you have chinese blood in you.....other than that, keep it to yourself if no one is asking you.....exactly what you have written in your last post. perhaps we could end this topic now....now all of us knew our identity.....we are all pilipinos....kahit nasaan country pa tayo...long live the philippines and mabuhay ang lahat ng pinoy..
